OKMULGEE, Oklahoma – A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Emergency Session meeting was held in person and via teleconference on Aug 16 at the Mound Building.
The National Council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 22-133 Authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a memorandum of understanding between the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the Okmulgee Public Schools for Mvskoke Language Services. The bill was sponsored by Representative Robert Hufft, which passed unanimously 15-0.
The program will serve Okmulgee Public Schools Students, not just Muscogee (Creek) Students. The memorandum will outline the expectations of the Mvskoke Language Program in the classes they offer students.
Classes will be offered to students K-4 at Okmulgee Primary, fifth through eighth grade at Dunbar Middle School, and ninth-12th grade at Okmulgee High School.
The meeting, agenda, and full legislation can be viewed at the MCN National Council Website.
