MVSKOKE RESERVATION – On Tuesday, May 12, the Business, Finance, and Justice/Land, Natural Resources, and Cultural Preservation Joint Committee held an in-person meeting. All legislation passed through the committee will be presented in the next session for full council approval unless otherwise noted.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
NCA 26-073 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation amending NCA 26-050 (A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing an appropriation for improvements located at the Omniplex. The legislation was sponsored by Representative William Lowe, and it passed 7-1. Representative Dode Barnett voted no on this bill.
If the bill is adopted by the full council, the appropriation will increase funds for ongoing improvements to the Omniplex by $77,000. These include stage improvements, solar lighting, a privacy fence, water supply, softball netting, and grass, among others. The original legislation appropriated $645,775 from the Capital Improvements Fund Account for the improvements. The amendment appropriates $720,775. Additional funds were necessary to finish the work by the completion date, June 1, 2026.
